Herbarium: Botanicals in Porcelain
£90.00
– Sold OutHerbarium: Noun. “A collection of preserved plant specimens — usually pressed, dried, and mounted… used for scientific study, reference, or artistic documentation. Traditionally housed in museums, botanical gardens, or universities, a herbarium captures the form and structure…of plants at a moment in time.”
I’ve become increasingly taken with the plants that surround me in the English countryside. Whether it’s things I’m growing in my own little garden or what I discover more broadly in our rural surroundings.
I rarely go on a walk when I don’t find myself carrying home an exquisite seed pod or examining the backside of a leaf to enjoy its pattern.
Almost without knowing it, I think for years now I’ve been longing to transfer more of these intricate features directly into my work. This new process has allowed me to do just that.
My porcelain renderings seek to pause and preserve what otherwise would have become a memory.
Each sculpture is mounted and ready to hang directly on your wall. A strong hanging wire has been built directly into the clay on the back of each piece. Simply install a picture hook into your wall, and place the piece.
